New witchy folk horror film: NIGHTSIREN

A subtle psychological thriller...

I learned about a new folk horror film from Slovakia, a 2022 film slated to be released in North America soon: NIGHTSIREN. The “Live For Film” website announced this new thriller from filmmaker Tereza Nvotová. The story follows a young woman who returns to the rural village of her childhood, seeking to learn more about her disturbing family history. She finds herself learning more about the local folklore, and the mysterious pagan atmosphere of the village, as she tries to untangle family conflicts and uncover long-buried secrets. Rather than being steeped in violence or the supernatural, NIGHTSIREN looks to be a subtle, psychological story about family, tradition, history and trauma, with layers of emotion and intrigue.

The trailer is eerie and enticing, and I can’t wait to see this film.
